In May 2020, I realised I was born to be an editor. In July 2020, I got my first position as editor. In March 2021 I was launching my own publication.

“Proofreading and improving content for a living?” My mum asked in disbelief. “Is that really what you want?”

My answer was always a hard, determined yes. Because all my life, without even knowing, I worked towards my dream job: being an editor.

I’ve always been a natural leader, identifying people’s strengths and helping them shine towards a collective goal in every team project I ever managed.

I’ve always had a feel for words: how they should be associated, where they should go, how they would work in a certain context.

Ever since I can remember, I mentally edit the content I consume, replacing words and phrases in books, articles, or movie subtitles with other words and phrases I find to be a better fit for the context and meaning they were intended for.

This just happens to me, it’s not something I do on purpose. I can’t help but improve content in my head whenever I come across it.
